Come celebrate Blacksburg’s vibrant arts community by visiting this year’s Art & Breakfast at the Market. Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. is proud to present Art at the Market, Blacksburg’s celebration of fine art and artists.

The 2019 event takes place on the Media Building Lawn on Draper Road, across from Market Square Park.

In a sidewalk exposition of unique works you’ll find abstract acrylics, collage, flowers, gourds, still life, photography, and even stone sculpture. The art show begins at 9 am and will be juried at 10 am.

Breakfast will be offered by local restaurants at the show. Breakfast runs 8:30am-11:15am

Meet the Judge-Meggin Hicklin

Meggin Hicklin is currently the Exhibitions Program Manager at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech where she works closely with the Curator at Large to produce and present a rigorous exhibition program featuring contemporary art from the NRV and around the globe. She has curated exhibitions including SWARM (2018), Unleashed (2015), and P. Buckley Moss: Sowing Seeds (2016) and manages the ongoing Young Artists and 22Steps exhibitions at the Center.

Outside of work, Hicklin has worked with several area nonprofits and organizations including the Giles Arts Council, LoCo Arts, the P. Buckley Moss Gallery, the Girl Scouts of America, and the Giles Early Education Project (GEEP) to provide free art activities to area children and families.

Hicklin holds a BA in Studio Art from Radford University (2002), a BA in Art History from Virginia Tech (2015), and an MA in Material Culture and Public Humanities from Virginia Tech (2015). She lives in Pembroke, VA with her dog, Ellie Mae.

Live Music with Mood Swing

Mood Swing is a Blacksburg, Virginia smooth jazz quartet with vocals specializing in the wonderful standards of the Great American Songbook, think of composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Harold Arlen.

Their mellow sound, which appeals to all ages, ranges from bluesy ballads to up-tempo swing with some Latin jazz thrown in. You may even hear a jazzy Beatles tune!
